Infrastructure Innovation

The Ask

Students in the Da Vinci Center for Innovation’s Intro to Engineering course were tasked with picking an engineering discipline to tackle as part of a semester long innovation project. My group selected fabric recycling infrastructure as our topic and decided to research textile waste management systems to determine if we could transform our current system using a circular production methodology. We decided to condense waste management and design into one facility, a localize recycling hub model that aimed to increase transparency amongst consumers. This required a reimagining of the entire waste collection system from the collection bins, all the way to fabric being recycled at our facility.

What Did I Do?

As we divided our work , one of the tasks I took on was the development of a 3D prototype for a textile collection bin. The bin must be accessible to all body types, have ease of access for its operators and collectors as well as keep donated fabrics safe from weather conditions. I took 2D drawings made by our group and inputed the dimension and basic design specs into Fusion 360, creating a 3D rendering to display our design.
